Who are you?
John Cunningham, Senior Business Development Manager
Experienced helping businesses set out plans taking advantage of respective technologies, developing appropriate industry skill sets for staff and enabling business strategies.

What sets you apart from the competition?
Remit Training has a range of significant positives to call upon. Highly able and experienced staff, business structure and flexible approach thus enabling routes to success.
The UK is very lucky to have a wide range of provision to aid employees within the workplace to gain relevant, current and objective industry standard skills.
The important aims Remit Training set out to achieve are aligned to our clients & partners, primarily to succeed. And in a manner that promotes confidence and enjoyment around learning & development.
Apprenticeship qualifications form the basis of our prospectus, covering professionals areas including; Digital and IT, Business, Management, Hospitality, Automotive and Care.
I work within the Digital and IT department. Employer types we have predominantly worked with are SMEs. Qualifications that have created most appeal are aligned to professional roles with e.g,
- Digital Marketing
- Media & Content Production
- Marketing Executive & Manager
- IT Technical Support
These are examples that businesses have gained much value from aligned to promotion & visibility to respective customer bases.
In the past few years the importance of Data Sciences has emphasised the value of ‘data’ and how this applies to business. Often it reveals opportunity for new business, but often the understanding gained from analysis reveals problems, sometimes alarming to our clients.
Software development is another important element of training & qualification for business. Think the business need for Mobile Apps, websites and applications and that is a highlight to needs around software.
There are many other areas I would be happy to talk about, especially the training & delivery approach, holistic cycle to qualification and the free recruitment services also offered when aiming to recruit new staff.
The company also offers bespoke training & related services which we would also be happy to discuss.
Importantly
- Enrolments & Programme starts are monthly
- Recruitment of new recruits if free
- Additional vendor qualifications compliment many of the accredited apprenticeship qualifications
- Added value is offered on every programme, especially where related to the complimentary tools and services offered to aid study
- A dedicated trainer provides monthly training sessions
- Additional 1-2-1 sessions between key stake holder to ensure positive experiences and progress through a programme
- Use of e-Learning and e-Portfolio platforms making it easy to keep up to date with study and portfolio recording
How did the business come about?
The company originated and focused upon the automotive industry and qualifications related to different vehicle types. Remit Training has two highly equip automotive academies in Derby.
What are your main target markets?
The benefit of working with Remit Training is the depth of training services & qualifications offered to businesses.
A key element of working with any business is being able to meet the broad requirements set out by an apprenticeship, the ability to provide a safe, encouraging & guided environment of work. Importantly understanding a prospective apprentice is ‘learning’ within the workplace to reach a certain professional level.
The business type, size and industry play a part in building target markets. Unfortunately we’d be at a loss of working some highly specific small businesses where there isn’t any existing skill-set and capability in a prospective qualification of interest. And that is largely due to an apprentice requiring a ‘mentor’ to provide guidance and be available to answer ‘at work’ queries. (And apprentice is working at a junior level, but is not a ‘Junior’ employee within the respective professional area. (This does sometime cause employers a confusion so I would be happy to discuss).
But overall, a business that has identified a need where Digital Transformation or IT Technical skills are a demand.
Where new staff employed in an apprenticeship role is relevant (free recruitment services being offered).
Where the continued professional development (CPD) of existing staff is key. This may relate to promotion aims or taking a new direction at work, where expanding a hobby or personal ability and become a ‘professional’ is the key aim.
How long has your business been in existence?
Over 20 years
How many staff do you employ?
Remit is split into regional sections. In the NW around 50 staff are focused on delivering training, or working alongside such as curriculum development, quality assessment and account management.
Overall 350+ staff work for the company across the UK
What job or achievement makes you most proud?
The time I have spent at Remit (since Feb. 2020) has brought quite a few Ups and Downs. COVID 19 has definitely presenting incredible challenges.
The most striking thing to me is working with employers across a journey aligned to their respective aims.
The great thing is connecting opportunities and aspirations set out by a business or organisation, the people involved in developing their careers or simply seeing a chance where they thought there was none.
Remit Training has helped ‘match’ many, many employers & staff (whether new or existing) to new professional pathways.
The great thing through the pandemic is that Remit have climbed the rankings (independently assessed) as a training provider offering services across industry.
In the last 18 months for example, Remit Training has achieved consistently been within the top 5 training provider for respective Digital & IT qualifications. That denoted by the qualification level achievement by learners i.e. Pass, Merit or Distinction grades, as published by the British Computer Society.
Where do you see the business being in five years?
Remit Training is once again growing following the biggest impacts of COVID 19.
The aim is to reach a position of choice as a training provider
Tell us one interesting thing about the business that might surprise us?
One apprentice placed during the COVID 19 period affecting businesses was a past band member of the Prodigy (think Fire Starter and that’ll be the band!)
